Dr. Gerald Farnsworth, ND
Dr. Gerald Farnsworth founded the Farnsworth Clinic in 1950. Though he retired from full time practice in 1998, he continues to serve as an advisor to both the clinic and the naturopathic medical profession at large.
Dr. Gerald earned his Chiropractic Degree and Degree in Drugless Therapy from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, Ontario in 1950.
But he didn’t stop there, he continued his post-graduate education and obtained his Naturopathic Degree from the National College of Drugless Physicians in Chicago, Illinois. He later received his certification from the Page Foundation of Anthropometric Medicine in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1954.
Dr. Gerald is a living legend in the field of naturopathic medicine. He served 27 continuous years on the board of the Association of Naturopathic Physicians of B.C., commencing in 1952.
He was a founding member of the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, where he served on the Board from 1956 to 1979, principally as Chairman. He also served on the Board of Bastyr College in Seattle, Washington for five years, where he is now Trustee Emeritus.
He was a founding member of the Northwest Naturopathic Physicians Convention, serving on the committee continuously from 1957 to present. He was also a founding member of the Northwest Naturopathic Physicians Association and the Canadian Naturopathic Foundation.
He was a charter member of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors, serving in nearly every executive position, including president. He now holds lifetime membership with that organization, as well as with the British Columbia Naturopathic Association, the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia and the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.
Dr. Gerald has written two publications about the history of naturopathic medicine. He also co-authored the history of the Canadian Naturopathic Foundation.
In 2006, he was the recipient of Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors’ Verna Hunt Award for outstanding contribution to naturopathic medicine.
In 2009, he was awarded the honorary doctorate Doctor of Laws by the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Gerald has served the naturopathic medical profession tirelessly since his retirement from active practice, having attended or lectured at all naturopathic medical schools in North America.
Dr. Gerald was a general practitioner with special interest in laboratory medicine, physical medicine, women’s health and cardiovascular health. Working alongside his brother, Dr. Earl Farnsworth and later his son, Dr. Todd Farnsworth, Dr. Gerald served his patients for 65 consecutive years, delivering a broad scope of naturopathic medical care.
His personal interests include flying (he owned his own aircraft), hunting, fishing, travelling, spending time with family and furthering the naturopathic medical profession.
